WEEK 09

In week 9, I will explore different examples and gather feedback to improve my work. I will also learn techniques in After Effects to understand how to create motion graphics, including the types of transitions I can use. This will help me improve my skills and apply these techniques in my own projects, making my animations smoother and more engaging.

Title: California Inspires Me

I came across this finding while during the lecture and found this inspo, "California Inspires Me" on Miro.

The unique storytelling and visuals immediately caught my attention. What I found particularly interesting about this video is how it captures inspiration through personal stories, enhanced by transitions and morphing effects. Brian Rea’s artistic style adds a dynamic feel that brings the narrative to life. This finding is important because it highlights how effective transitions and morphing can enhance storytelling. The emotional depth, combined with engaging visuals, creates a memorable experience for viewers.

This finding is necessary for my work as it inspires me to incorporate similar transitions and morphing techniques in my own motion graphic. By doing so, I can create a more immersive experience that emphasises the connection between emotions and the story being told.

Title: Motion Graphic Trends 2024

I came across this finding while lecturing and one of the lecturers played "Motion Graphic Trends 2024" on YouTube. The exploration of upcoming trends in motion graphics caught my attention as I was researching for my project. I found interesting findings about some of the trends such as liquid and morphing animations, which are described as fast-paced, dynamic, and energetic. These elements highlight how movement can enhance storytelling and engage audiences effectively. Emphasising fluidity and energy can make visuals more fascinating, capturing viewers' attention and enhancing the overall impact of a project.

This finding is necessary for my work as it inspires me to incorporate liquid and morphing techniques into my own motion graphic to make an overwhelming atmosphere. By using these trends, I can create a more dynamic and engaging experience that resonates with my target audience.

Feedback

I received valuable feedback on my story board. First, it was suggested that I change the colour scheme, as the current colour combination isn’t working well. To improve the visuals, I should also develop keyframes 2 and 5 to create more contrast, which will enhance the overall look. Furthermore, I need to compare and contrast the beginning and the end of the animation. This approach will help me highlight the progression and ensure a more cohesive flow throughout the animation. By addressing these points, I can create a more engaging and impactful motion graphic that resonates better with the viewers.

Production

I learned about opacity, scaling, position, and easy ease in After Effects for the first time. Initially, I found it a bit challenging, but as I practised, I started to enjoy the process.

Understanding these techniques is important because they enhance the overall quality of animations, allowing for smoother transitions and more engaging visuals. This finding is significant because mastering these fundamental techniques will improve my motion graphic skills, making my work more dynamic and appealing. Incorporating these elements is necessary for my projects, as they will help me effectively convey emotions and narratives in my motion graphics.

Storyboard #2

Previously, my storyboard was not detailed enough and I need to redefine the key visuals.

Through consultation, I enhanced my motion graphic by refining two keyframes to make the contrast more visible. This involved adding specific details to each scenes, including descriptions that clarify the background, text, action, sound, camera, and transition. I incorporated sound effects to make the overall experience and ensure the audio is suitable and complement the visuals. I also focused on transitions between keyframes, aiming to create smooth and engaging transitions that enhance the flow of the animation.

These adjustments aim to create a more dynamic and cohesive narrative, improving the impact of the motion graphic on the viewers.

Mood Board

I want to create more vector graphics look of organic and geometric shapes to simplify the animation process during morphing from blobs to rigid in After Effects. The colours I’m choosing include blue, purple, and pink to represent feelings of overwhelm. As the narrative progresses toward acceptance, I plan to transition to yellow and orange at the end, providing a contrast. This colour shift will visually symbolize the journey from chaos to calm, enhancing the emotional impact of the animation.

Reflection

Learning After Effects for the first time has been a valuable experience, as it helped me understand the different techniques I could use for my motion graphic project. It opened up new possibilities for how I could express my ideas visually. I also learned the importance of constantly seeking inspiration to keep my work fresh and creative. By exploring different motion graphics, I was able to interpret and apply those in this project. I realised that different techniques can evoke different emotions, for example, using liquid or morphing effects creates a fast, dynamic, and energetic feeling. Another important lesson was identifying key visuals and details in my motion graphic. These moments should stand out as the climax of the story, helping the audience understand the key turning point. Lastly, I learned that adding detailed elements to my storyboard makes the process of creating animatics and the final motion graphic much easier, as it provides clear guidance throughout the project.
