WEEK 08
During Week 8, even though it was a term break, I worked on this project to quickly decide on the story I want to tell, so I could start early and get feedback. To start my motion graphic project, I first focused on developing my initial idea and setting clear goals. I expanded my concept by thinking about how to make it more interesting and creative. I then set visual, narrative, and goals, deciding on the style, story, and animation techniques I want to use.
Return Brief #1
I filed my return brief, ensuring all necessary information was included. This step helped clarify my project's direction and objectives, setting a strong foundation for the next stages. Because my photo/graphic book is about self-reflection, especially as seen in the symbolism of the Well of Heavenly Clarity, I want to make a continuation for this theme, which is self-acceptance and embracing.
The goal is to focus on self-acceptance and encourage viewers to recognize, accept, and embrace their struggles, including feelings of overwhelm. By illustrating how personal growth comes from facing these challenges, this motion graphic aims to inspire individuals to find peace, develop a deeper understanding of themselves while accepting who they are. In the end, it helps viewers see these experiences as essential to their personal growth on their life journey.
The subject of this motion graphic focuses on liquid and morph illustration and exploring the journey of self-acceptance amidst struggles and feelings of confusion and overwhelm. It begins with dark, chaotic, and abstract liquid motion that is fast-paced, symbolising this sense of overwhelm. The turning point occurs when the character pauses to breathe, signifying a moment of introspection as abstract objects begin to take on clear shapes. Ultimately, the character embraces its overwhelm, experiencing a sense of calm and self-acceptance.
Storyboard #1
I created a storyboard based on my script, which is my first draft. My goal was to establish a gripping atmosphere that allows the audience to truly experience the feeling of overwhelm. This approach aims to connect them emotionally with the character's journey and challenges.
Reflection
I’ve learned that setting clear goals and defining my target audience are essential steps in the creative process. Understanding the emotions I want to evoke through my project helps me stay focused and purposeful. By creating storyboard, I can map out the flow and key moments of the project, ensuring I have a strong visual guide. This approach provides me with a clear framework and keeps me aligned with the original intention. When it comes time to execute, I can refer back to my return brief and storyboard, making sure I stay on track and deliver my initial intentions consistently. This process has taught me the value of structure in creative work.
