WEEK 07

Before starting the project, I decided to spend some time exploring different ideas and finding inspiration. I looked at different styles of motion graphics, checked out other projects, and studied how other creators made them. This exploration helped me better understand my idea and think more clearly about what I wanted to do. I thought about how I could improve my original concept by adding more creative and exciting elements. By looking at things from different angles, I wanted to create something more interesting and visually striking, while also leaving space for growth and new ideas during the process.

Feedback

After sharing my initial topic on A02 Sharing session, I received some valuable feedback that helped me see my project from a different perspective. The suggestion was to expand my subject matter beyond just simple scribbles, encouraging me to think about how I could add more depth and complexity to the concept. I was advised to create additional assets that would support and enhance my ideas, such as characters, backgrounds, or objects that could bring the story to life. Furthermore, I need to develop a script to better organise and clarify my thoughts, ensuring that my project would have a clear narrative structure and flow.

This feedback gave me the opportunity to rethink my approach and really focus on what I want to achieve with the project. Instead of just sticking to my original idea, I realised I could push myself to create something more detailed and purposeful. By expanding the scope of my subject matter and adding supporting elements like a well-thought-out script and extra assets, I believe I will be able to present a more polished and engaging final product. This guidance is helping me stay focused and aligned with the vision I want to bring to life for my project.

Script

Then, I created a script and started searching for sound effects. This process helped me refine my ideas and ensure that my project would effectively convey the intended message. Finding the right sound effects will enhance the overall impact and make the motion graphic more engaging.

  1. Dark background and faint rumbling sounds. Abstract visual elements such as shadows and fog move quickly, reflecting feelings of overwhelmedness.

  2. The silhouette of the main character appears, seemingly trapped in a crowd of abstract shapes.

  3. "What's wrong with me?” (animation rigid)

  4. The character tried to fight it

  5. The visuals become more intense, showing spirals that become sharp.

  6. The character closes his eyes and takes a deep breath.

  7. “Pause to breath”

  8. The character opens his eyes, the visuals begin to slow down, the noise slowly fades, the abstract shapes softening and seeing the anxiety no longer as an enemy, but as a part of himself. The visuals change to softer shapes and brighter colours, creating a more peaceful atmosphere.

  9. The character begins to move with more confidence, embracing the anxiety and merging their movements into one.

  10. The character now stands with serenity, surrounded by shapes that represent growth and acceptance. Giving a positive feel.

  11. He smiles, showing that he has accepted a part of himself.

  12. “Embrace it.” (animation smooth)

I came across this finding while exploring motion graphic inspirations on Behance. The project titled "Massive Visible Explosion" caught my attention.

That I found interesting about this piece is how it visually represents overwhelming emotions through dynamic and explosive visuals. This aligns perfectly with my theme of illustrating feelings of overwhelm. This finding is important because it demonstrates how powerful visuals can evoke strong emotions and communicate complex ideas effectively. It shows that chaos can be portrayed in an engaging way.

This finding is necessary for my work as it provides a visual reference for depicting overwhelm in my motion graphic. It inspires me to use dramatic visuals to convey the intensity of emotions. This aligns with my motion graphic, which features an explosive style. I aim to create a similar aesthetic and colour palette. Additionally, the morphing transformations will enhance its visual appeal even further.

I found this illustration style while browsing Behance, specifically in the "Holidays 2023" project, which features graphic vectors with blob-like shapes.

What I found interesting about this style is its vibrant approach, which could effectively convey a sense of movement and energy in my work. This finding is important because it shows how using unique shapes and bright colours can enhance visual storytelling and make the graphics more engaging.

This finding is necessary for my work as it inspires me to incorporate a similar illustration style into my motion graphic, adding a fresh and dynamic element to the overall design.

Reflection

To improve my motion graphic project, I need to focus more on the subject and script. By giving these my full attention, I can build a stronger foundation for my project. I also understand the importance of seeking inspiration from different sources. This helps me get a clearer vision and generate new ideas. With these insights, I know what direction to take. The process of gathering inspiration and then executing my ideas has taught me how to be more efficient and creative in bringing my motion graphics to life.
